Welcome
I am Peter Needham, I am 30 and I live in Romiley, Stockport.
I am a woodturner with a background in art and carpentry and I have been very fortunate to have found woodturning as this combines both disciplines.
Wood is such an incredible material to use with its wide range of grain patterns, figuring, colours and burrs plus the simple fact that no two pieces of wood are ever identical means that anything that is made from it is truly unique. Also, Unless it is unavoidable, I don't work to templates or predetermined measurements to ensure each piece is distinctive.
I believe in letting the wood "show" me what it wants to be and if the wood is highly figured I try not to let the design of the piece detract from the beauty of the wood.
As much as I enjoy making purely artistic pieces, I also like making useful items such as pens, letter openers, bud vases, key rings, cord pulls, clocks, pot pourri bowls etc.
To see what sort of things I make and which ones are for sale, just click on the 'Image Gallery' option in the left hand column. If you see something that you like, clicking on the thumbnail will open a larger picture.
My work is no longer on display at Stockport Art Gallery but I am looking for outlets in the area and I will list these as I get them. I regularly hold a stall at Hartington Craft Fayre near Buxton in Derbyshire. Entry is 50p and you get a free tea or coffee. I hope to see you there sometime!
please check my events page and http://www.biddulphcraftfayres.co.uk/ for future dates.
